The Book I choose
The book I choose is called How Humans Made Language, How Language Made Humans by:
Derek Bickerton
. out of all the interesting books that are listed, This one have grab my attention the most. Because of a recent course of anthropology i toke in my last semester here at Laguardia community college. In my anthropology class we where taugh about how the human species came along and how we have emerge in the world. This book has alot of similar topics with my previous anthropology class. My professor made the class so intresting that i kept on reading on more about insights into the development of language both by individuals and as a feature of the human species.
Another intrest that made me lead into choosing this book is about the arthours proof and examples of arguments he claims on how language was use among animals and so the first species that came to earth used these words to allowed the formation of concepts. For example Derek Bickerton explain that
By imitating an animal, like a mammoth, one could attempt to convince others to follow them to the body which ment a large source of meat. Granted, imitation is iconic while language is symbolic,Over time, the sounds signifying something like a mammoth would be decontextualized and come to resemble something much more closely resembling a word. Displacement, he claims, is the breakthrough that leads to language.
